What is common between a cyclone and Chetan Bhagat? Both are natural disasters-   This PJ ends the hilarious yet interesting video on home insurance by Sq Feet Subbu a.k.a Venkatesh. The video is part of a campaign for DRA Homes, a real estate company that has recently entered the real estate market in Chennai. This funny video series is called "Open Secrets" and features Venkatesh, a stand-up comedian, popularly known as Mr. Bean of Chennai. The video series is aimed at helping buyers with making an informed choice while purchasing a house.  Source : One of the comic panels that's appeared in an English paper. One of those witty one liners that Sq Subbu utters to make a point about home buying. A house is the most prized possession. Built out of years of hard earned money, embellished with love and care, a house is not merely a structure but a place where memories are etched. Needless to say, even a minor impairment to it can ruin our happiness. Though we care...

The Year That Was - Part I

Image
Not sure whether all of you have read my first post of the year- here is what I began my blog with this 2015. Incidentally, it was written on the very first day of the new year and happened to be picked by Blogadda as their Tangy Tuesday Picks. I am glad that out of everything written in the post, I held on to one thing at least- being active on the blog. Here I stand now, with the 70th post of the year that is about to bid goodbye in three more days. Source Going by the number of blogposts being written by fellow bloggers on how the year 2015 was for them and what do they foresee for the new year, I couldn't have kept myself away from doing the same. As I write this post, I am not even sure how to comment about this year. From what I can see, when I look back, is that the year has been challenging in its own way. It has given me several signs which I overlooked or may be refused to accept. And, it is only now that I realise had I understood those signs well earlier, I wou...

Ten Food Whose Taste I Can't Compromise With

Image
This was probably the initial posts that I saw on Facebook today morning. My instant reaction- a wide grin :-D :-D - of course, being a tea person, I could relate to this so much. There are so many such posts that come on Facebook news feed on a daily basis. With some, you identify instantly; with some, you feel you identified earlier; then there are some which you feel simply exaggerated. Tea is a drink that I really am obsessed about. No black, no green. I prefer my light brown coloured milk tea with a hint of sugar. Neither too milky nor too watery but a perfect mix of both with a dash of tea leaves. Explaining my kind of tea in words is tougher than how I imagined it to be. You'd probably have to pay me a visit to understand the kind of tea I like. We all have our list of favorites, which we fear to or at least think twice before eating, when cooked by someone else. Not everyone can have a mother's touch or your taste. Here are my favorite ten food/drink, whose t...

Blogger Avijit Roy's brutal murder in Dhaka shows your "personal" space is no longer "personal"

Image
This image is said to have been circulated by the Extremists. It shows, Avijit Roy lying dead in a pool of blood on the street, and his injured wife (standing) seeking help. The death of a US-based blogger Avijit Roy on the streets of Dhaka while he was returning from a Book Fair in the Bangladesh capital along with his wife, was a spine-chilling and gory incident that rattled me to the core. When I first heard of the incident on NDTV morning news, I was not just taken aback but also scared like never before. I am not here to make any commentary about his death, neither an analysis nor any talks about what we learn from this or what our leaders should do etc. I am merely writing this post as a fellow blogger. The fact that Roy was killed for talking about religious fundamentalism, extremism and what not on his "personal" blog is not just ridiculous but also throws light on the fact that your personal life is no more personal. You are arrested for writing a status message ...
