I struggled but overcame - Post for a Contest by Chennai Bloggers Club

I have been thinking of writing for this post since long. But somehow the fact that I had ‘struggled’ and overcame those struggles to reach where I am today made me feel miserable. Not that my struggles are probably the toughest. I am sure many other fellow bloggers, and for that matter, every person has had their own share of struggles, some worse than mine, some better. Guess that’s the beauty of a struggle. It took me quite some time to figure out what has been the most daunting task for me till date. And, have I been able to overcome it? I don’t know which was harder – to take the decision of changing streams in Class XII, or to take up Journalism in IIMC when I could clear no other exam for a Post-Graduation. Or was it the time when I was well settled in a job, but had to quit and move back to parents because of their insecurity with my relationship. No, may be, it was the time when I wouldn’t find a suitable job and work for peanuts as a Freelancer. But, I think I can safely...

15 Takeaways from Paulo Coelho's 'The Devil and Miss Prym'

Image
In this stunning novel, Paulo Coelho, dramatises the struggle within every soul between light and darkness, and its relevance to our everyday struggles. Can we dare to follow our dreams, to have the courage to be different and to master the fear that prevents us from truly living? The Devil and Miss Prym is a story charged with emotion, in which the integrity of being human meets a terrifying test.  I finished reading this book in a day. The line in the blurb of the book- "C an we dare to follow our dreams, to have the courage to be different and to master the fear that prevents us from truly living?"- caught my attention at the outset. It was more a sense of Deja Vu that   made me read the book. I have read Paulo Coelho's 'The Alchemist' long back and hence, getting back to some book reading with him was definitely a good idea. Some books do not need reviews, instead, you get to learn or takeaway  so many realisations that you tend to relate to them more of...

Tete-a-Tete with God

She was lying on the bed with her baby curled beside her. As the baby breastfed, her line of  thoughts waved from one thing to other. "Why are things like this?" "Am I really becoming an atheist?" "Will praying to God really solve my problem?"- her trail of thoughts broke as her child detached himself from her feed and slept off peacefully. She slowly tucked herself out of the bed and walked towards the hall.  Standing in front of the door that opened to the temple room in her house, she pondered whether to open or not. It had been months since she opened that door, lit a dia or agarbatti. Finally, she opened the door after much hesitation initially. She sat down to clean the floor that was filled with cobwebs and dirt, and the dried leaves of the flower that was last kept for performing the morning rituals. Having cleaned the floor and the shelf on which were kept frames of not one but several gods and godesses, she sat down with her hands perched togeth...

Should You Give In To Your Fear?

Disclaimer: The views expressed in this post are my personal. They may vary from people to people and be different for different circumstances.  What is fear? A feeling that creeps in when you fail to or are unable to fulfill a certain task. Fear comes in unannounced. You may fear because you genuinely feel it or you may fear for the heck of it. But the question is should you give into your fear? OR should you rise above all that is pulling you down to that extreme? In most circumstances, the tendency is to give into the fear. How many times do we actually sit back, think and try to steer away from the thought of 'quitting'? Nobody really wants to quit. It is the circumstances, situations, behaviors, thoughts that rules our actions. It is probably also the emotional quotient that tends to be on the higher side while dealing with a situation that causes the fear. Not just the emotional quotient, the whole thought about "what will they say"?; 'they' here ...

Things that define me- A post for BlogAdda and Gillette Venus #UseYourAnd

“ This post is a part of  #UseYourAnd  activity at  BlogAdda  in association with  Gillette Venus “. “Sneha, what’s wrong with you sweetheart? You are not the one to be meek and coward. You are someone we have known as being bold, confident and strong. You have been brilliant in academics, you are happily married now and have a son; then what drives you to such stupid thoughts?,” said P, my school friend, when I confessed to my school friends’ group on WhatsApp one day that I was too low and felt suicidal.  I know suicide sounds too big a word. I never thought I would be writing about this experience of mine on a public platform like this. But I guess that is the experience which has made me realize my inner strengths and the ‘things that define me’ as a woman. It is not that I needed the thoughts of death to remind me how strong a woman I was or I am. It is just that at times, when you are down and out, you think about the situations worse th...
