A response to Abhijit Mukherjee's statement

This post is a response to what Mr Abhijit Mukherjee, (sadly) son of the President of India, said today about the protesters in Delhi. So, Mr Mukherjee thinks that the protesters were all "dented and painted" women and not any students. I wonder what made Mr Mukherjee vent out such a remark in an interview to a vernacular news channel. His words- "Those who are coming in the name of students in the rallies, sundori, sundori mahila (beautiful women), highly dented and painted." show what sort of mentality or rather what goes on in the mind of this fellow all the time.

Mr Mukherjee, an MP from Jangipur seat which Pranab Mukherjee had vacated before his election to the post of President, had surely overlooked the fact that an interview to a vernacular news channel will not remain within the confines of that particular news channel or rather that state boundary. Considering the kind of media hype surrounding the recent protests in Delhi, this remark was definitely not going to be forgone. And, that is what exactly has happened.

Now that he has shot to his small amount of fame on TV channels, he has retracted from his statement as well. Or should I say "apologised"? I do not know whether Mr Mukherjee seeking an apology would bring down the fire that is burning high in the streets of the national capital. He has given the enraged women of the capital one more reason to snap at the politicians.

In all likelihood, the protesters might react to his statements in a way which Mr Mukherjee himself would not have thought about. The prime time debates have already made this "topic of discussion" shifting the limelight from the usual topics that had been going on regarding the rape incidents/protests and what not.

What I fail to understand is the fact, what was going on in Mr Mukherjee's mind when he uttered these "beautiful" words? On a serious note, I want to ask him which DTH operator he has that he was "clearly" able to see the "dent and paint" on the faces of the protesters through all the lathi-charges and tera gas shell firings. Well, since all the DTH providers now offer "High-Definition" picture quality, I am sure, for Mr Mukherjee's eyes, it would have been a lovely "exercise" to have a glimpse of the fairer sex.

The only good part amidst all this remark has been the reaction of Mr Mukherjee's sister, Sharmishta. Shocked by her brother's remark, she even apologised. Whether the apology was genuine or not, I do not wish to know. But at least, Pranab Mukherjee can breathe a sigh of relief for his daughter has acted more sensible than his son.

Just hope that when Pranab Mukherjee, if at all, reacts to his son's statement, does not add like our Prime Minister "theek hain" in the end of his speech. It will definitely not be "theek" for the President of India.

A RANDOM THOUGHT

For the past few months i have been thinking of writing something on my blog. Whenever I switched on my laptop, and opened a new microsoft word document, words just refused to flow out of my mind. It seemed my mind was all blocked. No ideas, nothing, i just sat in front of my laptop looking at the screen and wondering what to write. Days turned into months but words refused to flow.
